Create your world through visualization
Affirmation works best when combined with visualization. Visualizations are images that we create in our mind. The word means, literally, to see in your mind.
To make visualization work for you, you must truly believe that you can visualize and see what you want. This may sound simple but it isn’t. The technique is simple but the principle behind it is not. You must have a child-like belief that the world is full of love; that the Universe wants you to have all the good in life and that if you truly believe, you can have what you want.
A movie starring you
Visualization begins by closing your eyes and creating a mental image of what you want. It is like watching a movie, only this time you are the lead actor, the scriptwriter, the director, the cinematographer and the producer. Because you call all the shots, you control everything. Unlike in the regular movie where there will be scenes that you would rather not see, your movie will only have scenes that you would like to see. In fact, you like them so much that you play them over and over again in your mind.
At first, the images may not be clear. But as soon as you get the hang of directing your movie, the images will become very real. Like a soap opera, your movie evolves as you add more details. But unlike a soap opera, the lead actor (who happens to be you) lives in an “ideal” world. Remember, you visualize to bring about positive developments in your life. So your movie should not have scenes where you are brokenhearted, forsaken, abandoned, hated, and living in misery. Unless, of course, it is want you want in your life, in which case, you are reading the wrong book.
Create scenes where you are happy, fulfilled, glowing, satisfied. Let’s say you want success in your career, visualize yourself receiving commendations for good work done, having a pleasant time with your colleagues, basking in your success. If you want to have a happy relationship, see yourself meeting someone with all the qualities that you want. Then you can add scenes where you are enjoying a happy, fulfilled relationship with him. If you are truly inspired, you can have a ‘finale’ scene with you as a blushing but beaming bride walking down the aisle with all your family and friends teary-eyed with happiness.
As you visualize, observe yourself how you feel. If at first, you don’t feel convinced with what you see (Me? A bride? I can’t even get a date!!!), don’t give up. In time, as you practice, you become more comfortable with the images that you are forming that that the characters seem to play out their roles without need for direction.
Feel the emotion
As you watch yourself in your movie, imagine what it would be like to have the real thing happening to you. Feel those feelings now. If you are visualizing yourself getting a promotion, feel the pride, the happiness, the exhilaration, and of course, the joy of having more money. If you are seeing yourself getting engaged, feel the excitement, the warmth, the glow in your face, and the overwhelming happiness in your heart. Feel what it’s like to say, “Yes, I will marry you!” as your man excitedly slips the diamond ring on your finger. Let the emotions surge through your body. Close your eyes and enjoy the feelings.
To see is to believe
Visualization works because we believe what our eyes see. This holds true for visual seeing as well as mental seeing. The images we create are entered directly n our subconscious. You have actually seen what you want. By playing your movie again and again, your mind begins to believe that it has actually happened. And you already know how the subconscious works to make things happen.
Give yourself time
Set aside a time and place for doing your affirmations and visualizations. If possible, do it at the same time everyday.
If you are new to the discipline of affirmation and visualization, it may take some time before you get very comfortable with it. It is never easy to undo years of brain programming, especially negative ones. It could take time but if you keep an open mind, and with diligence and perseverance, you will see results faster.
