Make affirmations work for you

There is nothing complex about affirmations.

Affirmations are simply what we say or think. They are your statements about you and your outlook in life. It can be a means to skillfully transform the Energy in this Universe to manifest what we want in life.

The root word of affirmation is affirm, which means to validate, confirm, state positively.

Unfortunately, and maybe unconsciously, we use negative affirmations all the time. Are these familiar?

I hate myself

I look horrible

I hate my job

How can I do that? I am so stupid?

I am so unlucky. I meet all the horrible men all the time.

I will never lose weight.

Something bad always happens to me at this time of the year.

If you have read the previous section, you already know that these negative thoughts create your feelings, beliefs and experiences. If you examine your life now and find that you are experiencing all the things that you do not desire in your life, take time out to check out what you have been affirming.

Affirmations can be a key tool in bringing about change in your life, whether it is in the form of personal change or bringing new people, new things or situations into your life. It is a very powerful that it almost seems like magic. You just have to know how to use it to make it work for you.

Secrets of Effective Affirmations

When you first start using affirmations, it may not seem natural to you. Just as it takes time for a seed to become a full-grown plant, so it is with affirmations to become a normal part of your life. Be gentle and patient with yourself. Over time, you will feel totally at ease with them, that having positive thoughts would seen to be the most natural thing to do.

How do you come up with affirmations?

There is no set rule. You can use any positive words that help you achieve your personal goals and would help you enhance your mental, physical and spiritual self-awareness,

Here are a few principles on how you can effectively use affirmations to bring about your desires in life:

Create your own

There are several books that contain ready-made affirmations. They can be very useful to get you started and acquainted with the idea and principles behind affirmations. But as you become more comfortable, you can start creating your own affirmations that accurately reflect your desires.

Make it positive

Always state your affirmation in positive terms. Do not use words like ”not“ of ”never“. For example, instead of saying, ”I am not irritable“, you can say, ”I am blessed with patience. I respond to all situations with understanding and compassion“.

Make it brief

Construct your affirmations with brief and simple sentences. This way, it is easier for you to remember and internalize them. Don’t use words that you do not fully understand.

Use the present tense

Say, ”I am…“ instead of ”I will….“.

The general idea of affirmations is to tell your subconscious mind that what you want to happen is already the reality. Let’s say you want to quit smoking, don’t say, ”I will stop smoking“. Say, ”I am smoke-free“. By using ”I will“, you are postponing the realization of your statement into an uncertain future. And if you always phrase your affirmations in the future tense, you will never reach it.

Applying the principle to your love life, you can affirm, ”I am in a happy, loving, fulfilling relationship with a romantic, sensitive, successful (or whatever traits you are looking for) man and I deserve it“ or ” I love myself so much that I accept a loving harmonious relationship in my life“.

Stay focused

Choose what you want and focus on it. If you keep changing your mind as to what you want, the Energy can’t flow into your goal. Let’s say you want to lose 10 pounds, then the next day you have decided you’ll be happier with 15 pounds. This will be confusing to your subconscious.   It needs a clear goal to work on. This is why it is important to write down your affirmations.

Write down your affirmations again and again

Get a journal or notebook where you can write your affirmations down. Write by hand; this way it will add the affirmation to your body’s memory as well as to your mind.

Doing it by computer does not have the same impact. Look at your written affirmations, every chance you get. This will help you internalize what you have written. In case you changed your mind as to your goals, revise what you have written.

Make your affirmations literally visible

Put down your affirmations where you can see them: on your bathroom mirror, on your reading table, stick them on your computer terminal, or just about anywhere that will constantly remind you of them.

Say it out loud many times

Look at yourself in the mirror. Say your affirmations out loud many times or at least have a conversation with yourself. Spoken affirmations have been proven to be more effective. By saying it out loud, you make it more solid. And the more enthusiasm you put into it, the more solid it becomes. And to make it even more effective, repeat your affirmations at least five times in the morning and in the evening.

You can also record your affirmations and listen to them before you sleep. Some people have found this method to be very relaxing and effective.

You can’t do affirmations for other people

While affirmations are extremely powerful tools to change your world, they can only change yours, not anybody else’s. For example, you can’t say, ”My boyfriend is very understanding. He will understand that I can’t spend much time with him because of my work“. You can’t change how your boyfriend thinks and feels with your affirmation. You do not control his mind (unless, of course, you have other special powers).  But you can say, ”I am very efficient in my work. I still have quality time to spend with my boyfriend“; if spending more time with him is what you want.

As you apply these techniques in your daily routine, you are actively programming the way in which you think of yourself and the world. Over time, you will change your thinking and create a new reality for yourself.
